Dear readers,
Genuine, long-standing and trusting relationships pay dividends – in our private lives, but of course also in the workplace. Open dialogue, honest analysis, the willingness to break new ground and the desire to improve things that are not working as well as they could are essential to a company’s long-term viability. In our cover story, you, the reader, can follow part of the journey undertaken by Iwan Koslow GmbH & Co. KG to optimise its metal sorting process. With 150 employees across four sites, the company has been active in the recycling and processing of scrap metal for more than 75 years. In early 2013, the collaboration with SPALECK began with the aim of improving the quality of the recycled products and the efficiency of the sorting process. Read the fascinating article ‘Process Control in Metal Recycling’ from page 4 onwards.
Another fine example of a long-standing, fruitful collaboration between a plant manufacturer and a recycler can be found in the article ‘Volvo L120H wheel loader in action’. However, this was not a case of a new purchase. The L120H has been in operation for many years and showed clear signs of long-term use. With sustainability in mind, Reiling GmbH & Co. KG also decided to make use of “Swecon’s certified Volvo Rebuild Programme”. “We had clear expectations: we wanted the refurbished L120H to run like a brand-new wheel loader afterwards.
That was our aim,” says Dirk Bessmann, Deputy Production Manager at Reiling GmbH & Co. KG. Are you, dear readers, also curious to find out how successfully the project was completed? Then read the article on the rebuilt Volvo wheel loader from page 26 onwards.
Many more interesting articles, including those on plastic recycling, sewage sludge treatment and metal recycling, can be found in this issue of recovery 05/26 – we hope you enjoy reading it.
