Development of battery systems and their recycling

FIRE symposium on
October 10, 2023 in Freiberg/Saxony

Climate change, energy transition, climate neutrality, mobility transition, sustainability – buzzwords that today represent overarching topics in research, business, politics, and society.

In view of this, at the beginning of this year the European Union decided to phase out vehicles with combustion engines from 2035. The share of electric vehicles in Germany has risen steadily in recent years, reaching a share of 3.9% this year, with forecasts showing around 11% for 2025 and 24% for 2030. Since the beginning and the extension of the war of Russia against the Ukraine the anyway tense situation on the raw material market, particularly with critical raw materials drastically intensified so that the topic, with which one will concern oneself on the 13th trade conference of the Freiberg community of interests of the recycling and disposal economy registered association, possesses high topicality. Of course, not only batteries and battery systems of motor vehicles will be considered, but also from other application areas.

In five thematic blocks, the focus will be on

the challenges of waste legislation in the recycling of batteries and accumulators as well as the Saxon raw materials strategy

the raw materials situation in Germany

developments in storage systems and batteries

the recycling of lithium-ion batteries and

the recycling of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries

14 presentations by renowned scientists and representatives of authorities, but also representatives from the industry will be dealt with and put up for discussion.

The FIRE symposium is known for the fact that, due to the strongly practice-oriented choice of lectures, not only the theoretical state of knowledge is presented, but above all technical solutions and experiences are explained and put up for discussion. In this way, participants are given the opportunity both to obtain comprehensive information and to make valuable contacts with companies in the industry. At the same time, this opportunity is also available to the relevant research institutions located here.

The one-day conference is being prepared in cooperation with the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and will be held in the „Alte Mensa“ Petersstraße 5 in Freiberg/Saxony. Deadline for registration is 05.10.2023.
