Innovative incineration bottom ash add-on for STEINERT non-ferrous metals separators

Optimizes the sorting quality of bottom ash and
fine grain applications

For almost four decades, STEINERT’s eddy current separators have formed the backbone of recycling plants the world over. A new upgrade increases sorting efficiency and reduces the number of manual splitter corrections needed.

STEINERT Splitcontrol, the latest add-on for STEINERT eddy current separators, optimises the sorting quality of incineration bottom ash and additional fine-grain applications. Changes in the material properties, such as residual moisture, grain shape or conductivity, can be counteracted with this automatic control technology. Splitcontrol ensures consistently high yield rates and high operational stability. Manual interventions to correct the separating splitter can be reduced to a minimum.

STEINERT Splitcontrol can be incorporated as an additional option when configuring a new STEINERT non-ferrous metals separator. Retrofits are possible as well. This versatility allows users to better exploit the potential of existing systems or benefit from the advantages of Splitcontrol from the outset.

This is how STEINERT Splitcontrol works

A laser grid is used to monitor the variance of sorted product in the eddy current separator’s discharge zone. The different discharge parabolas of the conductive NF metals and the unaffected non-conductive residue (drop) are assigned via software. By automatically controlling the belt speed, the discharge parabola of the drop proportion is always led close to the separating splitter, meaning that the sorter can always be run to deliver optimum separation.

The benefits at a glance

Consistent product quality: the automated control function continuously monitors and adjusts separation, guaranteeing a continually high level of sorting quality. Variable material properties are counteracted and an optimum metal yield attained at all times.

Production is more stable and operating reliability is improved: thanks to the automated control technology, the risk of subjective incorrect manual adjustments is greatly reduced.

Less operating effort: fewer manual interventions are needed to correct the splitter, which minimises staff deployment.

Modular control: up to four eddy current separators can be controlled with just one STEINERT Splitcontrol unit.

Simple installation and maintenance

Splitcontrol kits can be installed in a matter of hours. They are fitted on the outside of the sorting system and usually require minimal modifications to the outer shell.

Maintaining and cleaning the Splitcontrol add-on are also simple and efficient tasks: a removable casing permits access from the outside so that all the work required can be carried out while the splitter is still running. This minimises interruptions to operation and maximises productivity.
