Efficient end-of-life tire recycling in MontenegroIn the summer of 2025, a new recycling project was successfully implemented at the Montenegrin waste management and recycling company Deponija D.O.O. in Podgorica. The goal of the project was to economically process used tires from passenger cars and, to some extent, from trucks, and to extract a high-quality secondary raw material from them. A high-performance shredding solution from THM recycling solutions GmbH is being used for this purpose.

Deponija D.O.O. operates the regional municipal landfill Livade and is active in the areas of waste management, recycling, and the transport of secondary raw materials. The company works closely with municipal agencies and is subject to strict environmental and operational regulations. Against this backdrop, a new, high-performance solution for tire recycling was sought.
As part of a new purchase, Deponija D.O.O. opted for the XL3000 pre-shredder from THM recycling solutions. The machine was delivered complete with a discharge conveyor and an elevator conveyor. The XL3000 is equipped with two motors, each with an output of 110 kW, and is specifically designed for particularly challenging materials.

The application poses significant technical challenges: scrap tires consist not only of rubber but also contain textile and metallic reinforcements. This combination of materials is considered difficult to shred and leads to high wear in many systems or necessitates multi-stage process solutions. The XL3000 handles this challenge with ease. The machine shreds passenger car and truck tires in a single stage to a particle size of approximately 30 to 40 mm, without requiring a second shredding stage.
Another advantage is the machine’s very robust construction. The XL3000 is designed for continuous operation and can be installed outdoors without restrictions. This offers the operator a high degree of flexibility in plant planning and reduces the need for additional investments in buildings or enclosures.
For Deponija D.O.O., the implemented solution represents a clear economic advantage. Single-stage shredding significantly reduces investment and energy costs. At the same time, the previously discarded waste product – used tires – is transformed into a valuable recycled raw material that can be reused or sold.
The project exemplifies how robust and practical recycling technology can be used to implement efficient, economical, and sustainable solutions in modern waste management.
THM will provide information on this and other recycling solutions at IFAT 2026.
